BassCulture meets Knockout @ Amsterdam Roots Festival

Afterparty with Jamaican Film Screenings in Hotel Arena



Sunday the 21st of June BassCulture meets Knockout at the 2009 Amsterdam Roots Festival. The two popular party brands come together at The Bass Stage in the Oosterpark from 13.00 - 20.00 hrs and continue their musical vibes collaboration with an afterparty in the Hotel Arena.



You can expect a lot of bass: reggae, dancehall, roots, jungle, drum & bass and dub step. These music styles will be ruling the stage. But that is not all. Bassculture will bring live musicians (singers, MCs, violin and drums players, dancers) performing on the DJ sets. This international artist line-up, including Deadly Hunta, Manu, Audiopharmacy, is not to be missed. It will be an unforgettable Caribbean-flavoured event.


At 19.00 hrs Hotel Arena already open its doors for two unique Jamaican film screenings hosted by Caribbean Creativity: the 20 minute roots reggae documentary One Cup of Coffee (2008), narrated by Cedella Marley, and the hit dancehall sitcom from Jamaica Me and Mi Kru (2009) from Jamrock directed by Rick Elgood. Come and see these European releases and immediately join the afterparty afterwards (included in the ticket)!

Crochet Junky

Up till a year a go i didnt even know the difference between knitting and crocheting. I was so bad that when i went to buy crocheting needles i bought 2, when that was for knitting (breien). I was wondering why the guy at the store was looking at me crazy..

But anyways, a lie is what got me starting crocheting.
I was shopping with a friend for sneakers on the Nieuwendijk and i had one of my favorite crochet rasta hats on. In the store there where 2 dready's working and they complimented me on the hat and asked if i made them myself. And before you know it i said: YES, they asked if i sold them: Again: YES. How much: E. 25,00. Could they order: YES. before you knew it i had two orders for the next week. So walking out of the store i told my friend: OH MY GOD what did i start. I never crochet in my life and now i took orders, what is wrong with me. He looked at me like i was insane.. Anywayz after the initial panic i desided: how hard can it be and i went on bol.com bought a book on crocheting, bought TWO crochet needles, some yarn and off we went.
Man.. it was the worse 3 days of my life. I didnt understand anything from the book, so i threw that aside. I just started i thought again how hard can it be. 3 days later, 12 repeats, a lot of cussing i had the ugliest hat you ever saw.

But i kept at it and the rest is history.

I thought i was obsessed with crocheting.. But this guy takes the cake.. suite and all.. dopeeeee...!! And doesnt he look like Andre3000 from Outkast..

SistasPlace is een inititiatief van Poema Jones. Zij is een ontwerpster die handgemaakte accessories en kleding ontwerpt, produceert en verkoopt via haar Webshop en Website www.poemajones.com.
Daarnaast geeft zij Haak Workshops en verkoopt zij haar spullen op eigen georganiseerde feestjes en of feestjes/festivals van derden.

Sistas Place heeft als bedoeling mode-ontwerpers een plek te geven waar zij hun ontwerpen kunnen aanbieden zonder te maken te krijgen met hoge opstartkkosten of als ze wel een plek vinden; lage inkoopprijzen, consignatie verkoop of het moeten afstaan van een deel van de omzet.

Ervaringen die Poema Jones zelf heeft opgedaan in haar zoektocht naar een plek om haar ontwerpen aan de vrouw te brengen. Tot zij besloot voor haar zelf te starten.

Sistas Place Praktisch:
Voor E. 1,00 per dag, kunnen ontwerpers tot 50 artikelen onder eigen naam artikelen in de webshop plaatsen.
Zij kunnen een plek inkopen voor halfjaar tot een jaar.
Zij maken gebruik van alle faciliteiten van de webshop, de gedeelde exposure door promotie van de individuele ontwerpers en van de algemene promotie van de website door Poema Jones zelf.

Voorwaarde is dat de artikelen moeten passen binnen het concept van Poema Jones om het geheel uniek en exclusief te houden.

Er wordt hiernaast 1 x per kwartaal een craftmarket gehouden waar, allen op de website gepresenteerde ontwerpers, hun spullen kunnen verkopen.

New Collection Poema Jones

the new earring collection is ready. This time i was inspired by Africa and the use of the colors black & white in contrast with an other color.
I also used geometric patterns.
I did stay with the wood and the different shapes. Again all handpainted.
